The Blue Lagoon
The Blue Lagoon is one of Iceland's most popular attractions. It’s an outdoor pool of geothermal seawater, about 45 minutes from Reykjavik and close to Keflavik airport. The fluorescent blue pool of water is quite warm, almost 104°F year round, and it makes the Blue Lagoon a very popular destination in the cold Icelandic winters. The lagoon is surrounded by black lava rocks and covered with surreal bright steam. Due to its vast size, it is easy to find a spot to get that weightless sensation floating in the water. In addition, the mineral rich water is believed to have curative and restorative powers, but people are advised to listen to their bodies and limit the bathing time accordingly to prevent exhaustion. In addition to bathing in the lagoon, visitors can visit the lava cave or take a steam bath powered by natural forces.
